Holy Trinity Youth Join OYMT 2024 Mission Day Hosted by St. John’s Orthodox Church in Bridgeport

On October 27, Orthodox youth gathered at St. John’s Orthodox Church on Mill Hill Avenue in Bridgeport, CT, to experience a unique glimpse into mission life through OYMT For A Day 2024. This event, open to middle and high school students, provided an introduction to the Orthodox Youth Mission Team (OYMT) through a one-day program of faith, service, and friendship.

Holy Trinity Church Represented

Among the participants were representatives from Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Yonkers: Father Vlad Zablotskyy, Subdeacon Chris Nolan, Reader Demetrios Torres, and Andrei Bucur. Their presence underscored the commitment of the Holy Trinity Church to fostering youth engagement in mission work and Orthodox values. Together with the youth from other parishes, they contributed to creating a warm, spiritually rich atmosphere.

A Day of Faith and Service

The primary activity for the day was the construction of a Blessing Box—a community resource designed to provide essentials to the neighborhood surrounding the parish. This project exemplified OYMT's focus on giving back and serving others through small yet meaningful actions. No experience or tools were necessary, making it accessible for all participants, who were simply encouraged to bring enthusiasm, a reusable water bottle, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.

Connecting Through Service and Prayer

The day went beyond just service; it was a chance for Orthodox youth to come together in prayer, to deepen friendships, and to be part of something larger than themselves. Dinner and snacks were provided, giving everyone the chance to relax and bond over shared meals. Participants shared moments of reflection, laughter, and camaraderie, finding connection through both their faith and the hands-on mission work.

Looking Ahead

OYMT For A Day demonstrated the powerful impact of even a short mission experience, inspiring youth to engage with the spirit of service. Families and youth interested in future OYMT events are encouraged to consider joining, as the experience offers valuable life lessons rooted in Orthodox teachings.

Your Generosity Is Much Appreciated

"He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." - 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
