Our beloved pastor, Fr. Yaroslav Sudick has recently given his
Notice of Retirement to Bishop Michael. Fr. Yaroslav has been an Orthodox Priest for 52 years and has been our Pastor here
at Holy Trinity for 22 of those years. He and Matushka Valerie will be sorely missed, but we wish them well and all God's
blessings in the years to come. Today, December 4th, 2011 the Parish held a lucheon to honor Father and Matushka. Although
Bishop Michael could not be with us for the occasion, we were joined by V. Rev. Joseph Lickwar, Chancellor of the Diocese
of New York and New Jersey. Fr. Lickwar presented a Gramota (Special Award Certificate) and a Palitza from Bishop Michael
as a personal gift. Click on the link below to view the video presentation:

Pumpkin Palooza" Family Day Our Church School was scheduled to have its first "Pumpkin Palooza" Family Day
on Sunday, October 30. The plan was to paint and carve pumpkins for Halloween and Thanksgiving as well
as prepare some of the pumpkin fruit for a goal of 10 pies to be sold at a later holiday bake sale. It
was anticipated to be a nice, autumn family afternoon. LITTLE DID WE KNOW........the day before would bring a first-ever Halloween snowstorm
to Yonkers and the entire Northeast...catching everyone by surprise! (When they say "snow" in
the NYC-area in October, it usually means "dusting"; a few flakes for a few minutes...nothing
to change plans over!) But the wind and snow blasted away all day Saturday, into a bonafide Nor'easter! When it
was all over, Yonkers had 6" of snow! (Not much by rural standards, but unheard of for
the NYC region in October!) Many had lost power and/or heat and hundreds of still-leafy, snowy branches
blocked roads and added to the already treacherous conditions! The church itself was without power until
7:15 am! (Many were just getting back to normal after hurricane Irene in September!)
"Well -- that's the
end of our Pumpkin Palooza!" thought Dasha Piwinski, Church School Director. But, despite the obstacles, a healthy enough number of
families made it to Liturgy the next morning that we were able to paint 10 pumpkins and carve out 3! In
addition, the little group made substantial progress at a side project too: Creating greeting cards for
patients in a Bronx VA hospital that will be delivered on Veterans' Day. Preparing the pumpkin fruit was
doled out to several families to completed and returned next Sunday when the final phase of this pumpkin extravaganza, putting
the pies together, will take place! It was a little extreme, but we certainly saw "frost on the pumpkins" this year!

Our Sunday School's Participation in the Appalachia
Service Project (ASP)
Our Sunday School ASP mission trip this past
July was a complete success! To thank the parish for your support, we invite all to a free pasta luncheon after liturgy on
Oct 2. Your financial contributions,
prayers and other support paid off in a wonderful trip that blessed us the servers as much as those that we served. Our presentation
will give you a chance to see firsthand what our trip was like. Please invite anyone who may be interested in joining us next
year (July 7th – 15th, 2012). You
are invited to attend our FREE Luncheon:

Information about
the ASP from their website: Appalachia Service Project (ASP) provides one of the
most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation -- bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country
to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. But ASP is more than just a building program. Yes,
Appalachia's poorest families urgently need your help, but they can help change your life, too. Because when you change the
lives of others, they have a way of changing you. After a few days of hard work repairing homes
with ASP, your hands will grow a little tougher, your arms a little stronger, and your relationship with God a whole lot
deeper. You'll return home to your community with a passion for service, a renewed compassion for other people, and a fresh
appreciation for your place and purpose in this world. Best of all, you'll discover first-hand that regardless of geography,
education, or economic class, we are all equal members of the family of God. We like to say
that our goal is to make homes "warmer, safer and drier" for needy families. And for more than 40 years, we've
done exactly that for thousands of families. Yet for all that, we are only able to serve one in ten families who apply to
us for help. We need many, many more volunteers to make a lasting dent in Appalachian poverty.

Our plashchanitsa is over 100 years old (Greek:
Επιτάφιος, epitaphios, or Επιτάφιον, epitaphion; Slavonic: Плащаница, plashchanitsa; Arabic: نعش, naash) The plashchanitsa is
an icon embroidered and richly adorned used during the services of Great Friday and Holy Saturday . The icon depicts Christ after he has been removed from the cross, lying supine,
as his body is being prepared for burial. The scene is taken from the Gospel of St. John 19:38-42. Shown around him, and
mourning his death is his mother (the Theotokos); John, the beloved disciple; Joseph of Arimathea; and Mary Magdalene as well as angels, Nicodemus and others.
WELCOME!

A group of 9 of our Altar Servers participated at the Altar Boys Retreat sponsored

Please Remember in your Prayers Fr. Robert Stanion, a very dear
friend of our parish. Fr. Robert passed away March 23rd in Las Vegas. While living in New York, Father was a frequent visitor and always welcome guest in
our church. His sense of humor, enthusiasm and love of life and people will be greatly missed by all those who knew
him. Memory Eternal Fr. Robert! Fr. Robert was affectionately titled our "Associate Pastor". When in New York he frequently
visited and prayed with us. We will always remember him. Click here to see some additional photos of Father Robert from years

Church School Notes:
Hello Church School Families,
I hope everyone is having a wonderful
summer enjoying sun and fun. I just wanted to send out an update and let you know that our missionary, Michael Pagedas has
arrived in Tanzania to start his mission work. Below, I have copied an email he sent me to tell me what he's been up to do
far. He mentions he will be posting some photos and videos soon. If you would like to see what's the latest with his work,
go to www.ocmc.org and scroll down to the missionaries in Tanzania. Click on Michael's name and his website with blog notes
and latest photos and info will come up.
Please remember to pray for Michael and the work that he is doing along
with his fellow missionaries. Please also remember our church school's pledge to send him $30 a month. If you are a student
who is bringing in their contribution monthly, you can bring it directly downstairs under the church and give it to Mrs. Nolan
or someone else in the church office. Just make sure you tell them it is for the church school fund to go to the missionary.
Here's what Michael wrote in his email: I am with the rest of the team in Dar Es Salaam at the Salvation Army
compound. I just completed my first week of language training. Swahili is a very interesting but complicated language to learn.
However, I seem to be getting somewhat of a handle on it, and the people here seem more than willing to help me learn, even
the average Joe on the street.
Thank you for visiting my website. I am working on my next blog entry and hope to
have it up within a week or so. I also have video and pictures I'd like to post.
I look forward to Skyping with
you and your class. Tanzania is 7 hours ahead of the East Coast. Please say hello to everyone at your parish for me.
I am really behind on my thank-you notes, but I plan on getting them out as soon as I can! Forgive me for taking so long.
All the best, Michael
Thanks and God keep you all safe this summer and enjoy His beautiful creation!
In Christ, Mrs. Sulich/Teta
Susan
